The Wonder of Reading

Balboa Magnet is very proud of its library. It opened in 1999 thanks to a generous grant from the Wonder of Reading Foundation. The library has approximately 11,000 books. There are four computers that can be used as a digital card catalog or for Internet research. A highly qualified library aide oversees reading programs, literature purchases, and special events. In 2022 the district funded all LAUSD libraries to update their collections.  Our Balboa scholars even got to recommend some titles.  Balboa Magnet is committed to maintaining a well-organized reading environment for scholars to let their mind and imagination soar as they discover new stories and information.

Special Events

The library’s amphitheater is utilized for dramatic readings, and special events.

Wonder of Reading Volunteers

Based upon teacher recommendations, students who can benefit from reading reinforcement can participate in a reading program designed to encourage a love of reading. One hour a week, each student meets with a reading buddy in the library to read and discuss books. For more information visit the Wonder of Reading website.
